  • August 9-13, 2000
    Foundation Managing Director Don Bustion will speak on the "Future of Slovak Studies in the United States and Canada" during a panel of the annual meeting of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences in Washington, D.C.   • January 2000
    The Foundation entered into an agreement with Texas Tech University to sponsor the Slovak portion of the new Virtual Archive of East European History being prepared for the Internet by Dr. T. Mills Kelly, Assistant Professor of History at Texas Tech. The Archive, at http://www2.tltc.ttu.edu/kelly/archive, will host many important selections from key documents and images in Slovak history.   • February 15, 2000

    The Foundation reached an agreement with the Slovak Studies Association of the American Association of Slavic Studies to award an annual prize for the best academic research paper by a graduate student in Slovak history. This prize will stimulate important research into all aspects of Slovak history. The first such prize will be awarded at the annual meeting of the Slovak Studies Association in the Fall of 2000.

    The Foundation commenced publication of its regular newsletter, Servus, for its friends and supporters. To receive a complimentary copy of Servus, please send an e-mail to the Foundation at info@slovakculture.org.

    Executive Planning Session for Foundation Board Members, Advisors and Friends at Benedictine University, Lisle, Illinois.


  • April 9, 2000

    The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has invited the Foundation to make a presentation about its programs and activities to a gathering for the inauguration of a major national exhibit of Slovak Folk costumes.


  • April 17, 2000

    Representatives of the Foundation will attend the Midwestern Association of Slavic Studies meeting at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign to meet with scholars in order to formulate ways to foster research about Slovakia.


  • April 18, 2000

    Secretary of Foundation Selected to Serve on Illinois Ethnic Affairs Advisory Council

    Dr. Marie C. Bolchazy, Director and Secretary of the Foundation, has accepted an invitation to serve on Lieutenant Governor Corinne Woods' newly- formed Ethnic Affairs Advisory Council. She along with other representatives from ethnic and minority groups across Illinois met on April 18, 2000 for the inaugural session. The Council's first task is to create a list of issues that most concern ethnic and minority residents in Illinois. The Council will prioritize these concerns and assist Lt. Gov. Wood increating an action agenda to address these issues. This will assist our Foundation in identifying useful programs and sources of support


  • June 5-16, 2000

    The Office of the Illinois Governor has invited the Foundation to exhibit a selection of photographs of Dr. Igor Grossmann in the prestigious James R. Thompson Center at 100 W. Randolph in downtown Chicago the week of June 5, 2000, and possibly the week of June 12. The photographs will be displayed on the Atrium Level of the Center.

    If you are in the Chicago area, please be sure to see these wonderful images of a "Slovakia gone with time."


  • June 18-23, 2000

    Foundation Managing Director Don Bustion has been selected to attend the prestigious Illinois Summer Research Laboratory on Russia and Eastern Europe at the University of Illinois -- Urbana. The Institute, which is one of the premier study sites for Slavic topics, is funded by the United States Departments of Education and State.


  • August 5-6, 2000

    The Foundation will have a booth at Slovakfest 2000 on the grounds of the convent of SS Cyril and Methodius in Danville, Pennsylvania. Most Slovak organizations will be represented at this important event, which will feature the arts, sports, and assorted festivities.     1999

  • December 1999

    Foundation officials confered with government officials, scholars, businessmen and religious leaders in Slovakia about the programs of the Foundation, including support for university libraries and the inauguration of the Virtual Museum of Slovak Art and ArtistsTM on the World-Wide-Web. The Foundation plans important announcements soon.

    The Foundation entered into a tentative agreement with the Slovak National Gallery to host images from the Gallery's important collection in the Virtual Museum of Slovak Art and Artists. This will permit many glorious works of art from the collection of the SNG to have world-wide exposure. The Foundation and the SNG envision creating a "3-D" tour of the SNG's several museums.
