Mark your calendars! The Light of the Word Mission Gallery will exhibit
a selection of Igor Grossmann photographs. These images of the Slovak
countryside were taken between 1950 and 1965 and depict a way of life
that is "gone with time." The exhibit runs as follows:
December 1, 2001 through February 28, 2002
1835 Waukegan Ave.
Techny IL 60082
(between Northbrook & Glenview, Illnois)
Reception on Wednesday, December
5, 2001 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
From harvesting potatoes, transporting wood in the deep
snow, and washing clothes in freezing creeks, Grossman captures the values
of the simple unsophisticated life. With his images of festivals such
as Shrovetide and images of decorative village houses, Grossman documents
a region and people who are little known to western society. Through these
striking photographs, he is helping to bring the world's attention to
a place and a period of history that hold beauty and memories that are
able to touch people worldwide.
Selections from the collection of photographs
by Dr. Grossmann are available for loan for either long or short term
exhibitions in commercial and not-for-profit venues. For information,
